We’re so proud of Alice (pictured holding the certificate) who has been awarded first place in the Inspires at Hertford Regional College Apprentice Hair and Beauty Competition. The theme for the event was “Dance” for which Alice produced a contemporary twist on the Tribal Dance style. Alice was aided and abetted in no small way by our Nat Massey. Props to Nat who did a fab job being the model for Alice’s creative design.
Everybody at the salon is really made up with Alice’s amazing performance especially as we know the effort that went into the design not only on the day but for the preparation that Alice and Nat put into the event in the weeks leading up. Well done!
“This is the second competition I have taken part in, the first I did well in but did not get placed as a finalist, so achieving top place this year has been really brilliant!
When I found out the theme was dance, my first thought was that I wanted to do something really different to what everyone else would think of as dance, after researching I found tribal dance and thought I could do more complicated things to the hair style based on that theme. I researched on Google and Pinterest for large amounts of information regarding tribal i.e., hair, make-up and outfits and with the pictures I found, I formulated an idea and created my complete style for the competition.
On the day itself, I arrived with Nat, one of the stylists at our salon and my model for the day, early to prep make-up, clothes and hair style. The total time allowed for completing the hair-up was 45 minutes, I actually completed it in 30 minutes as I had practiced the style several times before the event.
The level of competition was very high with various styles of dance being created. When my name was announced as the winner I was really shocked but the worst part was actually having to have my picture taken, more nerve racking than the competition!”
Alice won a Wella SP Gift Set and Fifty pounds cash. Thanks to to everybody involved at Inspires HRC for organising the event.
