Staff and customers are in for a treat this Saturday as some of the world’s top female cyclists will be whizzing past the salon. Barkway is on the route of this years’ Aviva Women’s Tour which sees 16 of the world’s top teams battling it out for victory in one the of the leading women’s cycling races.
Almost 100 riders will speed past the salon in the fourth and penultimate stage of the race. They will have set off from Waltham Cross and will finish the day 64.5 miles later in Stevenage. Barkway marks the 38.6 mile point in the day’s racing and the riders are expected to enter the High Street at approximately 11.39am. However despite having been in the saddle for over an hour and half at this stage we expect them to fly past in a matter of minutes.
Though it may all be a bit of a blur, those passing the salon will include international stars Giorgia Bronzini, Emma Johansson and World Champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot who will be cycling alongside home-grown stars Lizzie Armitstead, Dani King and Laura Trott. All will be looking to claim the ultimate prize of the Aviva Yellow Jersey.
Last year’s event attracted big crowds and the organisers are hoping for a good turn out again this year. Don’t be surprised therefore if you are visiting the salon to be met by crowds of well-wishers on your way in! The High Street will be closed for a period and car owners are asked not to park on the route on the day so allow a little extra time for parking and making your way to the salon on foot if you are visiting us late morning.
Don’t worry if you happen to have your head over a basin or miss the action for whatever reason -highlights are on ITV4 every evening of the race at 8pm. It’ll be great to see Barkway on the screen and we’re hoping VK Hair Styling makes a prominent appearance!
