London fashion week: hairstyle trends

London Fashion Week is not simply about the clothes; as well as poring over hem lengths and textile choices, fashionistas will have been keeping a keen eye on the catwalk’s hairstyle trends and make-up innovations.

Whilst some of the eye make-up was alarmingly bold and bright – turquoise, blue and yellow featured predominantly – the hair was far more pared back. Many of the models had simple up-dos accessorised with scarves, flowers and jewelled accessories as seen here on the Dolce and Gabbana catwalk.

Modelling the spring/summer 16 offerings, frills and ruffles dominated the catwalks with a distinctly fun, feminine feel to the clothes. The hair was equally feminine, very much in keeping with this year’s popular, trending hairstyles. In fact the natural look has dominated the catwalks for several seasons now as a trawl back through hair trends for 2014 reveals.

Looking forwards to 2016 though the Marnie show featured models sporting hair twisted into clean, neat pigtails with fringes swept across their foreheads.

At Versace hair was very natural and simple whilst at the Roberto Cavalli show the models were rocking an 80s vibe with long waves swept over at the forehead to one side (see below).

Plaits were the name of the game at the Roksanda show with stylist Mark Hampton opting for the crimped look by plaiting the models’ hair and untying the plaits before the models took to the runway.

And straight and sleek was the favoured style at Jonathan Saunders where the models’ hair was ironed to a glass like shine.

Other stylists went for dishevelled, loose waves; braids and ponytails though the overriding theme of the shows was definitely natural, flowing locks.

As fun as it is to see what the fashion world is currently promoting as the latest “must have” look, at VK Hair Styling we are firm believers that everybody should go with a style that they feel comfortable with and that suits them. Whilst it’s great to know what the latest on trend hairstyles are and to borrow ideas and looks from the catwalks, we always encourage clients to choose a hairstyle that suits them and they can manage on a day to day basis. We are always delighted to offer advice and guidance and by the time you leave the salon we are confident you will look and feel like a super model in your own right!
